Hideo Nakata
In 1998, Hideo Nakata’s 'Ringu' brought Japanese horror into the forefront of Asian cinema.

Based on the Ringu series of novels by Japanese horror writer Koji Suzuki, Nakata’s Ringu became the highest grossing film in Japanese cinema history and spawned two sequels, one of which, 'Ringu 2,' was also directed by Nakata.

Following the international success of 'Ringu,' Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald decided to produce a Hollywood version. 'The Ring,' starred Naomi Watts in the story of a cursed video cassette that doomed anyone who watched it to a horrible death in exactly seven days.

Naomi Watts has reprised the role of investigative reporter Rachel Keller in 'The Ring Two,' and Hideo Nakata, the director of the original Japanese blockbuster directs his American film debut.
