Youโ€™d have to be wearing extremely rosy specs to think the PSBsโ€™ second decade was remotely on a par with their first, notwithstanding the excellent singles from โ€™93โ€™s Very, which followed their first (peerless) best-of, Discography. And the distinction between โ€œPopโ€ (17 tracks including โ€œGo Westโ€, โ€œItโ€™s A Sinโ€, etc) and โ€œArtโ€ (18 tracks including โ€œRentโ€, the magnificent โ€œLeft To My Own Devicesโ€, etc) seems spurious: surely the whole point of the Pet Shop Boys is the conflation of the two. The โ€œMixโ€ CD is grim in parts?half these people (Moby, Sasha, Peter Rauhoffer) shouldnโ€™t have been allowed anywhere near a PSB song. Oddly timed, unwieldy and ultimately unsatisfying.
