Marianne Faithfull has been forced to cancel shows in Lebanon and America after fracturing her sacrum.

Having suffered the injury in a fall in July, Marianne had been hoping to be fully recovered in time for the shows. In a handwritten letter to fans in Beirut she wrote:

“I am so sad I won’t be able to sing for you on Saturday. I broke my back in July & hoped & prayed I would be better enough to be able to do the performance on 17th August, although it’s not very long, but my recovery was going well. Alas!

I have never been to the Lebanon though I know it through books. It looks like one of the most beautiful places in the world. I was longing to play in Beirut & see your lovely city. I still hope to be able to come one day not too far away when I’m completely healed and have my dream to sing in Beirut come true.

With sincere apology & love, Marianne Faithfull x”

Billed as “an intimate evening with Marianne Faithfull” the shows were the conclusion of a critically acclaimed summer tour which included dates in London and California. The cancelled shows are:

August 17 – Baalbeck International Festival, Beirut

September 16 – City Winery, New York

September 22 & 23 – City Winery, Chicago

Ticket holders should contact the place of purchase.

Marianne will also be unable to take part in a tribute to Edith Piaf at the Beacon Theatre in New York on September 19.
