When Dominic Appleton sang on 4AD's This Mortal Coil projects, his regal voice was arguably the most admired of that era. His band, Breathless, never nabbed a commercial niche, but still sound as if they eat Everest for brunch. Appleton's lovely, lisping tones are just one of the elements in a timeless, trembling landscape which echoes Pink Floyd and Caspar David Friedrich.
