Nashville-based Millerโ€™s stock has never been higher: Emmylou Harrisโ€™ musical director for the past five years; superb 2001 collaboration with wife Julie narrowly edged out by Dylanโ€™s Love & Theft at the Grammys. Four albums in, this is his finest solo foray yet, remarkable for Millerโ€™s skilfully-woven fretwork and plaintive moonlit moan. A couple of throwaway rockers aside, its ambitious scope reins in cajun, dirty blues and old-time country. Emmylou duet โ€œA Showmanโ€™s Lifeโ€, Southern soul corker โ€œWhen It Comes To Youโ€ and slowie โ€œPlease Send Me Someone To Loveโ€ are guaranteed to elicit envious glances from Millerโ€™s peers.
