Jack White showcased his debut solo album, Blunderbuss, with an all male band at Londonโ€™s Brixton Academy last night (June 21).

The blues singer and guitarist last played in the UK backed by an all female band in April, but this time took to the stage flanked by a seven-piece all male band. Whiteโ€™s set included material from his first solo album alongside tracks by his bands The White Stripes and The Dead Weather. He also performed โ€œTwo Against Oneโ€ from the Rome album by Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi, for which he provided guest vocals.

Speaking after โ€œHotel Yorbaโ€ โ€“ which received one of the biggest responses from the crowd โ€“ he said: โ€œLondon is alive and well and kicking. You get one nice day of weather yesterday and you just spring alive donโ€™t you?โ€

Fans greeted the bandโ€™s heavy version of The Dead Weatherโ€™s โ€œI Cut Like A Buffaloโ€ with a huge round of applause, while an extended version of โ€œBall And Biscuitโ€ saw White playing on his knees, marking the end of the main set. For the encore, White, who was sporting black, white and grey trousers, and his band played โ€œ16 Saltinesโ€, โ€œThe Hardest Button To Buttonโ€ and โ€œTake Me With You When You Goโ€.

Jack White plays at Londonโ€™s Hamersmith Apollo tonight (June 22), and Radio 1โ€™s Hackney Weekend this Saturday (June 23).
