Bobby Womack has been given the all-clear from colon cancer, after being diagnosed with the illness in March.
A posting on the soul singerโs Facebook page this afternoon said that surgery to remove a tumour was successful: โBobby Womack has successfully undergone surgery for suspected colon cancer. A tumour was removed last night which turned out to be cancer free. We wish him all the best in his recovery from the operation. Thank you for all your kind messages and support.โ
Bobby Womackโs new album, โThe Bravest Man In The Universeโ, is set for release on June 11.
Co-produced by Blurโs Damon Albarn and XL Recordingsโ Richard Russell, the album was recorded late last year in Albarnโs own Studio 13 in West London and also in New York.
The album is soul singer Womackโs first LP of original material in 18 years, following 1994โs โResurrectionโ. The album will be released on the XL label, also home to Adele and The xx.
Speaking to NME about the sessions earlier this year, Womack discussed working with Lana Del Rey on the album, describing the pair as being like โtwo people in a churchโ. He added: โSheโs one of a kind. Iโve never sung with a girl like that before.โ
Womack is due to play two UK gigs next month โ one at Londonโs Heaven on June 14, followed by a slot at the capitalโs Lovebox festival two days later (16).
