Heavy metal veteran Jon Lord premiered a brand new classical piece at Durham Cathedral to celebrate the city's University's birthday on Saturday (October 20). The co-founder of Deep Purple and member of Whitenake created a six-part musical piece entitled 'Durham Concerto' as a tribute to Durham University's 175th birthday. Perfomed by the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Mischa Darmev, Jon Lord himself performed on Hammond organ. The six connected parts, which lasted just over hour in total represented difeferent parts of a day in Durham.
