The Cure are to headline the Shockwaves NME Awards Big Gig taking place in London on February 26.
The band will be celebrating picking up the Godlike Genius award at the NME Awards the previous night at Londonโs Brixton Academy.
The Big Gig, to be held for the second time at Londonโs O2 Arena, saw 2008 Godlike Genius winners Manic Street Preachers headline earlier this year with Kaiser Chiefs, Klaxons, Bloc Party, The Cribs and Johnny Marr also on the bill.
The Cure are set to play a 30 year spanning set, and frontman Robert Smith has said: โI think it is a recognition of all The Cure has done over the years, so it would be pretty dumb to accept the award with a, โhey! Have you heard our new stuff?โ. So we wonโt be doing that! We are not going to turn up and start being weird!
โWeโll play some new stuff, some old stuff and some stuff from in between, trying to distil 30 years into the set!โ
Tickets for the Big Gig go on sale on Wednesday November 5 at 9am from nme.com
