Peter Gabriel has revealed he is struggling to get Radioheadโ€˜s Thom Yorke to commit to recording a cover of his song โ€˜Wallflowerโ€™.

Gabriel has asked a host of musicians including Yorke to take part in his โ€˜song swapโ€™ scheme, which has seen him complete an album โ€“ โ€˜Scratch My Backโ€™ โ€“ of covers by the likes of David Bowie (โ€˜Heroesโ€™), Arcade Fire (โ€˜My Body Is A Cageโ€™) and Radiohead (โ€˜Street Spirit (Fade Out)โ€™. In return, Gabriel wants those artists featured to record their own interpretations of his songs.

According to Gabriel, Yorke was all-set to record a version of โ€˜Wallflowerโ€™ for the project โ€“ though he hasnโ€™t been in contact in recent months.

โ€œI still havenโ€™t had a response from Thom Yorke,โ€ Gabriel told The Sunโ€™s Something For The Weekend.

He added that heโ€™s still keen for the Radiohead frontman to be involved, but said that he thinks Yorke might not be a fan of his version of โ€˜Street Spiritโ€™.

โ€œ[Yorke] originally wrote to say he wanted to do a version of โ€˜Wallflowerโ€™, but I havenโ€™t heard what he thinks of my version of [โ€˜Street Spiritโ€™]. Not everyone likes it and Iโ€™ve no real idea whether he likes it or hates it. We have a little clue, though,โ€ he said.

โ€œWe gave out codes for the artists to listen to their songs on a stream and we could see how many times theyโ€™ve heard them. I think heโ€™s only streamed โ€˜Street Spiritโ€™ once, which isnโ€™t a good sign, but who knows?โ€
