Ultimate Music Guide: Oasis

What's the story? To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Oasis, Uncut's latest Ultimate Music Guide is a 148-page tribute to the wild genius of Noel and Liam Gallagher. As ever, we've tracked down the greatest Oasis interviews in the NME and Melody Maker archives, and reprinted them: chaotic, hilarious, unabridged. And once you've read through all the bitching, battling and tales of legendary carnage, Uncut's team of writers have filed revelatory new pieces on every album - from Oasis' epochal debut, right up to Noel and Liam's most recent adventures.

Oasis’ Definitely Maybe 20 years on…

Like everything else, Noel Gallagher had an opinion about debut albums. “Definitely Maybe was the young, eager, wanting to get out there and fucking blow the world away album,” he told Uncut in 2000. As Gallagher claimed on many occasions, he’d been strategising a debut album, in whatever form, since his teenage years. With such apparent forethought, it’s no wonder that when Definitely Maybe appeared in August, 1994 it redrew the parameters of indie rock, filling a void left by The Stone Roses and gave Alan McGee’s Creation Records a world-class act.

Michael Eavis hints at third Glastonbury headliner

Michael Eavis has dropped some hints about the mysterious third Glastonbury headliner. Arcade Fire and Kasabian have been confirmed for the Friday and Sunday at the festival respectively but the Saturday night headliner has not yet been revealed. The announcement is expected to arrive imminently, with Eavis saying the full line-up will be issued at the beginning of May.

Introducing… Oasis: the Ultimate Music Guide

“There wasn’t a lot of pre-production for What’s The Story. . .If we were at home, the postman would drop off an envelope and in it would be a cassette saying ‘Noel demos’. You’d get a phone call: ‘There’s the next album. Learn it. See you in a week.’ That’s the way Noel worked. Everyone would figure out the chords – there was no point asking him, he didn’t know the name of the fucking things. ‘It’s one of them where your finger’s up there. . .’”

Oasis to re-issue Definitely Maybe for 20th anniversary

Oasis's 1994 debut album Definitely Maybe will be reissued to mark its 20th anniversary this May. Meanwhile, Oasis are the subject of Uncut's next Ultimate Music Guide, which goes on sale on March 13.

David Cameron ‘let out a little cry of joy’ at David Bowie’s Brit Awards speech

David Cameron has commented on David Bowie's Brit Awards speech – which was read by Kate Moss – in which he called for Scottish voters to reject independence. As reported, Bowie was not at the venue to pick up his award for British Male, and instead sent Moss to pick up the prize on his behalf and read out his acceptance speech.
