Iggy Pop to deliver 2014 John Peel Lecture

Iggy Pop will deliver this year's John Peel lecture, it has been announced. The singer, who hosts a Sunday afternoon show on BBC Radio 6 Music, will deliver a speech titled 'Free Music in a Capitalist Society' which will be broadcast on 6Music live on Monday, October 13 and will later be shown on BBC Four on October 19.

One of the highlights of Dave Alvin’s last solo album, 2011’s Eleven Eleven, was a track called “What’s Up With Your Brother?”, a droll blues about Dave’s famously fractious relationship with his brother, Phil, that ended hilariously with them having the kind of argument that put paid to The Blasters, the band they were in together before fraternal tensions drove them into a ditch. They split in 1985, after just five albums. While Dave became dedicated to life as a hard travelling road dog, Phil completed a master’s degree in mathematics and artificial intelligence.

The Who announce 50th anniversary tour dates

The Who have announced a UK tour to celebrate the band's 50th anniversary. The band's Who Hits 50 tour is being described by Pete Townshend as "Hits, picks, mixes and misses" and will see the band play their hit singles as well as tackling deeper cuts from their catalogue. On the tour announcement, Roger Daltrey said, “This is the beginning of the long goodbye."

Roger Daltrey says The Who will make a new album this year

Roger Daltrey says he will reunite with Pete Townshend this year to make a new Who album. Speaking to NME as he announced the line-up for this March's annual series of Teenage Cancer Trust gigs, curated by Daltrey, he revealed that Townshend has been working on new material.
