At 7pm on the first night of Atoms For Peace’s London residency, the Amok Drawing Room has already sold out of commemorative mugs. The Enterprise pub across the road from the Roundhouse has been rebranded in expressionist monochrome, and an upstairs room has been upholstered in Stanley Donwood wallpaper, the better to sell exquisite £500 prints, t-shirts screenprinted while-you-wait, and a pointedly apocalyptic jigsaw puzzle.
Gearing up for the Atoms For Peace show tonight with this lot: please note (and in some cases listen to) new Forest Swords, Feral Ohms (another Ethan Miller band, this one very much in the Comets On Fire zone) and a reissue for Robbie Basho’s long-unavailable first Windham Hill album. The Desert Heat record sounds better with every play, too…
No, unfortunately “Bright Phoebus” isn’t being reissued. But what prompted me to dig it out this week was the news of Bright Phoebus Revisited, a concert tour this autumn that promises the album recreated live by every Waterson they could find, along with various guests including Jarvis Cocker and Richard Hawley. The dates are London Barbican (11), Warwick Arts Centre (12), Liverpool Philharmonic Hall (14), Brighton Dome (15) and Bristol Colston Hall (16). Could be interesting: amazing record.
Bob Dylan has confirmed the full tracklisting for The Bootleg Series, Vol. 10 - Another Self Portrait (1969-1971).
The album will be released on multiple formats on August 26 in the UK via Columbia Records.
It includes 35 rarities alongside unreleased recordings and will be available in two disc standard and four disc deluxe editions and a vinyl edition.
We find ourselves in the wrong bar by mistake. Arriving at Hyde Park for this second London show on the Stones' 50 & Counting tour, we're issued with numerous coloured plastic wristbands that are intended to identify where we can travel around the site. There is this bar, that tier, this restaurant, these toilets... one of the first questions we're asked as we enter the site is whether we have a dinner reservation.
Nick Cave has appeared on an American podcast, WTF, hosted by comedian Marc Maron, The Line of Best Fit reports.
Over the course of the hour long programme, the pair discuss Cave's childhood, views on religion and what it was like meeting Johnny Cash. They also speak about the effect Cave has on a "certain type of woman".
"I have a deep understanding of troubled women," explained Cave. "I have a very strange relationship in general with women around my music. There's some that understand it and some that think there should be a law against it."
Lou Reed has been treated in hospital for severe dehydration.
The 71-year old singer was released yesterday (Monday July 1) from Long Island's Southampton Hospital after an ambulance was called to his house early on Sunday morning.
"Everything's fine," a source told the New York Post.
New Order are planning to release an EP before the end of the year.
The band's keyboard player Gillian Gilbert says the five-piece have been writing and will record the tracks in September "once the kids have all gone back to school".
To speed up the writing process, the band – Gilbert, along with Bernard Sumner, her husband Stephen Morris, Phil Cunningham and Tom Chapman – have decided to release the EP rather than wait until they have enough material for a full album
