From Uncut's November 2009 issue (Take 150), Bryan Ferry and his bandmates recall the making of Roxy Music's classic single, "Street Life"

Kraftwerk fans frustrated as ticket demand crashes Tate Modern website

Kraftwerk fans have been left frustrated as massive demand for tickets to the group's forthcoming residency at London's Tate Modern crashed the website yesterday (December 12).

The Allah-Las, London Shackleworth Arms, December 11, 2012

The Allah-Las make their UK debut in the back room of a north London pub on a freezing December night, the inhospitable weather not something familiar to in their native Los Angeles, where it probably only gets this cold in disaster movies, palm trees turning brittle with frost, the ocean becoming ice, CGI snow drifts on Sunset Strip and Denis Quaid in a parka and Bermuda shorts standing square-jawed and wrinkled-kneed against the elements.

Wild Mercury Sound 112 from 2012: 112 to 76

Preamble: I’m going to start rolling out this list over the next couple of days whenever I get a chance to post. Apologies, first, for the weird number…

Kraftwerk announce eight-night residency at the Tate Modern in London

Kraftwerk will play an eight-night residency at the Tate Modern in London next February. The iconic German electronic band will play a series of shows at the art gallery's Turbine Hall from February 6–14 in 2013. The gigs, which are called '1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8', will take on the same format as the run of dates they played at New York’s Museum Of Modern Art in April of this year, and the shows they have confirmed to take place in their hometown of Dusseldorf next January.

The 48th Uncut Playlist Of 2012, Bill Fay, plenty of links…

Sometime in the summer of 2011, I spent a pretty amazing Saturday morning at a small recording studio in Green Lanes, North London. When I walked in, a hesitant but beautiful piano line was coming through the speakers, and one of the most emotionally compelling voices I’ve encountered in the past few years was singing a song which, it transpired, would be called “Never Ending Happening”.

Brian Wilson – Album By Album

The reunited Beach Boys' new concert DVD is reviewed in the latest issue of Uncut (dated January 2013, out now) – so it seemed like a good time to revisit this fascinating piece from our October 2006 issue (Take 113). We were talking to Wilson, primarily, to discuss the 40th anniversary of Pet Sounds, reissued in deluxe format that month. But Wilson agreed to revisit five other pivotal Beach Boys albums, too. “If you’re a young guy or girl going out and buying Pet Sounds for the first time, you’re gonna be knocked out when you hear it, right?” Words: Rob Hughes

The 47th Uncut Playlist Of 2012

The new issue of Uncut should be with subscribers imminently, and in UK shops on Friday. Of some interest, I suspect, will be our Top 75 new albums of 2012 rundown; feel free to talk to me here about that when you’ve had a look (or before, if you like).
