Steve Buscemi to direct Vampire Weekend live stream

Steve Buscemi is to direct a live stream of a Vampire Weekend concert, which takes place at New York’s Roseland Ballroom on April 28. The gig launches the fourth series of American Express Unstaged and will be streamed via VEVO and YouTube. Previous episodes of the programme have featured the likes of Usher, Jack White and The Killers, whose concert was directed by filmmaker Werner Herzog.

Vampire Weekend reveal new songs ‘Diane Young’ and ‘Step’

Vampire Weekend debuted two new songs from their upcoming album late last night(March 18). Listen to them both below. The New York aired new tracks 'Diane Young' and 'Step', teasing fans with the news on Twitter. "We're dropping a double a-side single today – Diane Young/ Step. Get Ready" wrote the band. Both songs are taken from Vampire Weekend's forthcoming third studio album 'Modern Vampires Of The City', due for release via XL Recordings on May 6.

Vampire Weekend name new album via newspaper classified advert – and announce UK gig

Vampire Weekend have announced details of their new album, which will be titled Modern Vampires Of The City. The band have also revealed they are to play a one-off UK show on May 8 at The Troxy in London. The band teased the name of their forthcoming third album, which will be released in May, last week and today placed the album title in the classified section of the New York Times under the 'Lost And Found' header. Having tipped fans off to their PR stunt via Twitter, the band then confirmed the album title and release date in a second tweet.

Vampire Weekend confirm third album almost complete

Vampire Weekend have confirmed that they are putting the finishing touches to their "organic" and "cohesive" forthcoming third album, which is due for release in spring 2013. The LP will be the band's first new material since 2010's 'Contra' and has been in the works for more than 20 months. Although they say they have been mentally composing the record "since the we handed in [2010's] 'Contra'", when they actually began writing tracks in producer and multi-instrumentalist Rostam Batmanglij's Brooklyn apartment, they found a creative flurry at the beginning soon hit a wall.

Dinosaur Jr's new album features a funk influence and a song about vampires. The band are set to release their tenth studio album I Bet On The Sky on September 17. "There's a couple of songs with more of a groove, a little bit mellower, but there’s some heavier stuff on it too," singer J Mascis told NME. "It's funky for us, but not that funky. I like the first song 'Don't Pretend You Didn't Know' the best, that’s one of the funkier numbers, it seemed to come together in a good way."

Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig gives update on new album

Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig has given an update on the progress of the band's new LP and says that they now have "80 per cent of the songs" ready for the album. The singer, who was speaking to The Walkmen's frontman Hamilton Leithauser for Spin, said that working on the follow-up to their 2010 effort Contra had been a "long process" but hinted that they were nearing completion on the record.

Vampire Weekend have confirmed to Rolling Stone that they're working on the follow-up to their 2011 album, Contra. "We've started many songs," bassist Chris Baio told Rolling Stone. "Obviously we haven't been rushing it. We take it very seriously. We'll be incredibly psyched to share it with the world when it's done." Released in January, 2011, Contra reached No 3 in the UK album charts and No 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in America.
