The Who officially brought the London Olympics to a close with "My Generation".
Ray Davies, Madness and Pink Floyd's Nick Mason were among the other artists who performed at the Olympics closing ceremony.
Beady Eye played Oasis' 'Wonderall' during the 'A Symphony of British Music' segment. Backed by a string orchestra, Liam Gallagher was joined by the athletes and the thousands in attendance in singing the 90's Britpop hit. It is the first time Liam has sang the track live since Oasis split up in 2009.
Roger Waters' The Wall tour has been named the highest grossing tour of the year so far by Boxscore/Billboard.
The Pink Floyd man's global jaunt earned $131.4 million (£83.6 million) from November 1 last year to May 31 this year, selling 1.2 million tickets. The tour ends on July 21 in Quebec City, and will have made more than $350 million (£223 million) in total since it hit the road in 2010, and will have been seen by three million people.
The more-than-extensive ‘Immersion’ edition of Pink Floyd’s opus The Wall (the box includes a scarf and marbles!) is reviewed in our latest issue, out now – so we thought we’d revisit John Lewis’ excellent feature from June 2011 (Take 169). As the extravaganza arrives in Europe, Uncut meets the obsessive fans, stoners, bloggers and military advisors who’ll follow Waters and his lavish production to the ends of the globe…

You recorded with Syd Barrett.
Well he asked us. I was really surprised, but we [Soft Machine and The Pink Floyd] were two bands that played in the same places that weren’t playing “In The Midnight Hour” and stuff – because neither of us could play it very well, probably.
A bit of shameless self-promotion today, since I’ve spent the past month or so selecting a bunch of tracks for a new CD which comes free with the new issue of Uncut, out this Thursday or thereabouts. Ostensibly, “Interstellar Overdrive” is a compilation of newish psych to coincide with our Pink Floyd cover story. Alternatively, though, it’s a bit like a Wild Mercury Sound playlist.
