The Uncut Playlist

Could be a long day, since we've just embarked on the first CD of Miles Davis' "Complete On The Corner Sessions". Not sure we're going to make it through all six in a row, but a good start to the day. Here, though, is what we played yesterday. As usual, I can't pretend we're unequivocally behind every record on the list, but God, that Springsteen album gets better and better.

“I hate it when they ain’t bin shaved…” or happy birthday Near Dark!

I mentioned in yesterday's blog about how much of a fan I am of Near Dark, Kathryn Bigelow's vampire noir that celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. To be honest, it's been flapping round by brain all day like a rabid bat, so I thought why not write about it...

Bank Holiday films — oh, for the love of God…

While my compatriots are at Reading Festival, I've been spending a quiet weekend either enjoying the sun on London Fields or watching the typically variable output terrestrial TV has to offer. It's a dirty job, and all that.

Grindhouse for September

OK, so the damage limitation process is well under way. I’ve just received this email: “The Weinstein Co. today announced that Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s highly anticipated Grindhouse double bill will be released as two separate movies in the UK. Tarantino’s Death Proof will be released via Momentum Pictures/Dimension Films on September 21 with Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror released at a later date to be confirmed shortly.”

Queens Of The Stone Age and “Era Vulgaris”

I'm not sure we should be giving any more publicity to the bizarre media phenomenon that is Sharon Osbourne, but I couldn't resist starting today with this quote from her about Josh Homme. Homme, it seems, had the temerity to criticise Ozzfest. In response, Osbourne told Blender, "I hope he gets syphilis and dies. I hope his dick fuckin' falls off so his mother can eat it."
