Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch honoured by New York State Senate

Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch has been honoured by the local government in his home state of New York. Yauch, who was also known as MCA, was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 and succumbed to the disease earlier this month, aged 47. The rapper, who grew up in New York and lived there throughout his life, was honoured by the city's state senate on Tuesday [May 15].

Beastie Boys were hit with a lawsuit over alleged undeclared samples the day before Adam Yauch passed away, it has been revealed. Yauch, who was also known as MCA, was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 and succumbed to the disease on Friday [May 4], aged 47. US record label Tuf America had submitted a lawsuit against the band the day before (May 3) which alleges that they illegally sampled 1980s outfit Trouble Funk's "Say What" and "Drop The Bomb" on four of their early tunes.

Yauch, who was also known as MCA, was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 and succumbed to the disease on Friday [May 4], aged 47. Writing on the band's Facebook page, Mike Diamond said how much he missed his bandmate: "I know, we should have tweeted and instagrammed every sad, happy and inspired thought, smile or tear by now. But honestly the last few days have just been a blur of deep emotions for our closest friend, band mate and really brother. I miss Adam so much.

Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon: “Adam Yauch was a great lyricist”

Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon has paid tribute to Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch and said he was a "great rapper and lyricist". The bassist has shared her memories of Yauch, who passed away on Friday (May 4) after a three-year battle with cancer, with NME and hailed the rapper's lyrics. She said: "He told me once that he really liked the lyrics to 'Bull In The Heather'. It surprised me that he had even listened to it. It meant a lot to me that he went out of his way to tell me that, coming from such a great rapper and lyricist."
