10 Music Films Still To Come In 2014…

After an otherwise mediocre start to the year, the second half of 2014 looks set to be more promising for aficionados of music films. For a start, fans of Big Star who’ve been waiting for Nothing Can Hurt Me to arrive on UK screens will finally have their patience rewarded when Drew DeNicola and Olivia Mori’s film about Alex Chilton and co finally gets a UK release next month.

The Replacements played live for the first time in 22 years at the Toronto leg of alt-rock roadshow Riot Fest last night (August 25). Founding members Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson were joined in the band's reunion line-up by Josh Freese and Dave Minehan, who'd played in Westerberg's band previously.

No sooner has one Mark Kozelek album turned up than, ridiculously, another one is announced. www.caldoverderecords.com claims another Sun Kil Moon album is due January 14 next year, also featuring Steve Shelley, Jen Wood, Will Oldham and Owen Ashworth. In even less a shock, it promises that Kozelek “sings about his childhood years and his life today.”

Reading a magazine this morning, I noticed that there are a bunch of tribute shows to Elliott Smith coming up; ostensibly I guess to commemorate the fact that, horrifyingly, the tenth anniversary of his death is coming up in a couple of months.

REM, Hot Chip, Teenage Fanclub members confirmed for Big Star show

REM's Mike Mills, Hop Chip's Alexis Taylor and Teenage Fanclub's Norman Blake are among the artists confirmed to appear at Big Star Third - A concert performance of Big Star's legendary third album, Sister Lovers. The show will take place at London's Barbican Centre on Monday, May 28.
