Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney and Miles Davis came close to forming a supergroup, it has been revealed.
When Hendrix, Davis and Davis's drummer Tony Williams were planning to record an album together in 1969, backed by producer Alan Douglas, they sent a telegram to McCartney asking him to join them on bass.
The telegram, sent on October 22 1969, read: "We are recording and (sic) LP together this weekend. How about coming in to play bass stop call Alan Douglas 212-5812212. Peace Jimi Hendrix Miles Davis Tony Williams."
A Jimi Hendrix pop-up store will open in Soho, London, for the first 12 days of April.
The store, to be located at 8 Ganton St., comes as Hendrix’s posthumously-released album, “People, Hell and Angels” becomes the legend’s highest charting album since 1969. That album will be available at the Soho store, along with Hendrix’s full back catalogue in CD and vinyl, including items never released in the UK. It will also sell limited edition merchandise, including clothing, art, lyrics/chord books and guitar accessories.
Jimi Hendrix was keen to work with manager Chas Chandler and get back to more structured recording shortly before he died, Eddie Kramer has told Uncut.
The engineer, who looks after Hendrix’s legacy as part of the Experience Hendrix organisation, says: “Before Jimi died, in 1970, he sought Chas’ counsel. I think he wanted to put back the old team.
“He’d learned from the experimentation and realised he needed Chas – but he had to come to that realisation himself.”

A brand new Jimi Hendrix single "Somewhere" was played on the radio for the first time this morning (Jan 7).
The track, which will be released as part of People, Hell & Angels, the forthcoming album of previously unreleased studio recordings, was played by DJ Shaun Keaveny on his BBC 6Music programme.
The album will be released on March 4, 2013 and features 12 'new' songs, which see Hendrix experimenting with horns, keyboards, percussion and a second guitar.

Although, legend has it that the guitar Hendrix was playing onstage was switched with a lesser, cheaper instrument moments before the burning.
A new Jimi Hendrix album of previously unreleased material is set to be released in 2013.
The LP entitled People, Hell And Angels was recorded in 1968 and 1969. The songs were meant for First Days Of The New Rising Sun, the follow up to Electric Ladyland that Hendrix was working on when he passed away. It is set for release in the US on March 5, 2013 according to Rolling Stone. A UK release date is yet to be set for the new record.

Jimi Hendrix's set from the 1969 Woodstock festival is set to receive a cinematic release.
The performance will be shown on November 29 and December 4 at more than 30 cinemas across the UK, and in movie theatres globally.
The gig is being released to celebrate the 70th year of Hendrix's birth and will play alongside the film Live At Woodstock, which features interviews with band members Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell, as well as engineer Eddie Kramer and Woodstock promoter Michael Lang. Live At Woodstock is directed by Bob Smeaton [Festival Express].
Outkast's Andre 3000 is set to cover songs by The Beatles and blues legend Muddy Waters in the forthcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic All Is By My Side.
The musician – real name Andre Benjamin – is taking the starring role in the new film, which is currently shooting in Ireland, though is actually set in London. The film will not feature any music or songs by Hendrix himself, as the late guitarist's estate have not granted permission for them to be used.
