You could argue that things didn’t necessarily go wrong for Genesis after the departure of Peter Gabriel – but you wouldn’t want to base your argument on this boxset. 1973’s Genesis Live is rich with ideas and drama, and even 1977’s post-Peter Seconds Out, is strong, proving, as Guy Garvey keeps saying, that “A Trick Of The Tail” influenced Elbow. But Three Sides Live (1982) and The Way We Walk (1992) are truly grim. This set does end colourfully, though, with Live At The Rainbow 1973 and a fabulous “Supper’s Ready”.
