Afghan Whigs have announced details of three UK tour dates to take place in July.
The band, who will release their first new album in 16 years later this year, will play live in London, Manchester and Glasgow this summer following the release of Do To The Beast in April. The three dates come as part of a wider European tour and will see the band play London's Electric Ballroom on July 15 before a date at Manchester Cathedral two days later. A statue of a weeping Kurt Cobain has been unveiled in the singer's hometown, Aberdeen, Washington.
The city celebrated Kurt Cobain Day on February 20, which would have been Cobain's 47th birthday. The statue, which sees Cobain crying a single tear, is situated in the Aberdeen Museum of History. The day's festivities also included a gig and an appearance from Cobain's guitar teacher, reports Consequence Of Sound.
There’s a Youtube clip of Ryuichi Sakamoto, dressed in black hunched over a piano playing the piece of music he is most famous for – “Forbidden Colours”, from the film Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence. It is, I guess, the idea of Sakamoto we’re most familiar with – the artist, his instrument of choice, the music he is playing both delicate and fluid.

It's taken from Do To The Beast, the band's first album since their last album, 1965, which was released in 1998. Do To The Beast will be released on Sub Pop on April 14.
Do To The Beast features core members Greg Dulli and bassist John Curley, but it is the first Whigs album that doesn't feature the band's original lead guitarist Rick McCollum.
