Glastonbury’s Michael Eavis: “I’m sure Led Zeppelin will play one day”

Glastonbury boss Michael Eavis has said he is "sure" that Led Zeppelin will reform in the future. The band have long resisted offers to reform and play together again, and their last proper show was at London's O2 Arena in December 2007, where they were joined by Jason Bonham, son of the band's late John Bonham, on drums.

The 12th Uncut Playlist Of 2014

Lots to get stuck into this week, though I think it’s worth drawing special attention to the superb William Tyler EP and, in the week the Pixies announce a newish album, a pointedly excellent Kim Deal track with Morgan Nagler.

Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Robert Plant, Arcade Fire for jazz festival line up

David Bowie and John Cale lead tributes to Lou Reed

David Bowie is among many artists who have paid tribute to Lou Reed, who died yesterday [October 27] aged 71. A post on Bowie's website read: "R.I.P. LOU REED "It is with great sadness that we report the death of Lou Reed who died today aged 71. (March 2, 1942 – October 27, 2013) David Bowie said of his old friend: 'He was a master.'"

White Denim, “Corsicana Lemonade”

Playing spot-the-reference isn’t, I guess, the most elevated game for critics to indulge in. White Denim’s music, however, suggests that the Austin quartet are conceivably America’s most exciting record store nerds. Last time they put an album out (“D”, in 2011), I wrote a review in the mag that included this paragraph:

Stephen Stills, Emmylou Harris, Dr John honoured at Americana Awards

Stephen Stills, Emmylou Harris and Dr John were among the artists honoured at the Americana Music Honors & Awards 2013 on Wednesday night [September 18]. The ceremony took place in the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Stills also performed "For What It's Worth", alongside fellow Buffalo Springfield member Richie Furay shortly after being awarded the Spirit of Americana/Free Speech in Music Award.

Kings Of Leon: “We never even considered being rock stars”

With Kings Of Leon’s sixth album, Mechanical Bull, set for release on September 23, we thought it would be time to take a trip through the archives into November 2010 (Take 162), when we joined the Followill clan on the road in America – we hear of uncanny robberies, an army of Kings lookalikes, whiskey-fuelled anxieties and a new power struggle within this most volatile of bands. Do they want to be rootsy outlaws or modern rock superstars? Words: Jaan Uhelszki

The 32nd Uncut Playlist Of 2013

As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog, a big backlog of music to work through here. And while I try and offer some fractionally different recommendations away from the usual media pile-ons (Oh look, Haim etc), this Janelle Monáe album is terrific and I totally recommend having a listen on The Guardian’s stream: very much in the zone of “The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill” (especially “Victory”).
