There are many delights on offer in David Bowie – Five Years, the BBC’s terrific new documentary focussing on five critical periods in Bowie’s career. Here’s a longhaired Bowie, sporting a natty fedora, at Andy Warhol’s Factory in 1971, miming being disembowelled. And here he is on The Dick Cavett Show in 1974, wearing a dark blue shirt, tartan tie and brown trousers, twirling a cane while he performs “Footstompin”, a cut that eventually became “Fame”.

David Bowie has released the title track from his current album The Next Day as a single. The video was directed by Floria Sigismundi - the photographer and filmmaker who directed Bowie's last video, "The Stars (Are Out Tonight)". She also directed The Runaways and the video for Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors". The video for "The Next Day", which is set in a pub, stars Gary Oldman and Marion Cotillard alongside Bowie.

David Bowie has finally broken his silence on his comeback album The Next Day. American novelist Ricky Moody, writing for literary website The Rumpus, persuaded Bowie to comment – in a manner – on his album, after asking for a "work flow diagram" explaining his creative approach.

Gallagher made the revelation during an interview with Absolute Radio for Bowie Part 3 – Let’s Dance To The Next Day (1980-2013), which was broadcast last night (April 21). He said: "According to people I've spoken to, there’s another album in the pipeline. There was, like, 29 songs or something."
