Coming on like a cross between David Fincher's The Game and M Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable, the debut feature from writer/director Fresnadillo is a twisted, ingeniously constructed thriller.

Damien Odoul's debut feature is a coming-of-age film with a difference. Shot in black and white, full of violent and surreal imagery, it has more in common with the movies of Buñuel and Vigo or Arthur Rimbaud's poetry than with any conventional teen movie. Alienated teenager David (Pierre-Louis Bonnetblanc) lives on a remote French farm with his uncle. The older farm hands decide to get him drunk for the first time.
Bryan Singer's faithful take on Marvel's merry mutants is probably the best superhero movie to date, due primarily to Hugh Jackman's grumpy Wolverine, Anna Paquin's fragile Rogue, a couple of class-act Shakespearean luvvies (Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen), some great SFX and David Hayter's fine script. Roll on the sequel!
