Led Zeppelin in talks to stream entire back catalogue

Led Zeppelin are in talks to stream their backcatalogue online. The band are looking at giving at various music services including Spotify, Rdio and Rhapsody the right to put their music online, reports The New York Times. A deal would be a rare digital leap forward for Zeppelin, who waited until 2007 before they made their albums available through iTunes. Metallica, who became embroiled in legal action with Napster in the past, made a similar digital switch recently when they allowed Spotify to upload their backcatalogue.

The Velvet Underground – The Velvet Underground & Nico

The banana’s back. Not before time. Late last year, Lou Reed’s reputation suffered a serious blow when his ill-fated collaboration with Metallica met with hostility not witnessed since Metal Machine Music. He even had death threats. This 45th anniversary edition of The Velvet Underground & Nico is a timely reminder (if one is needed) that Reed at his best had few peers and no equals, and that his writer’s eye – literate, probing, explicit – was unflinching right from the start. He was always hardcore.

Lou Reed, Royal Festival Hall, London, August 10 2012

Lou Reed at 70 arrives onstage at the Festival Hall to do his bit for Antony Hegarty’s Meltdown programme dressed like a stroppy teenager in a baggy black basketball vest, gold medallions around his neck and what looks like a pair of tracksuit bottoms. He looks frail these days, though tonight slightly less so than last year at the Hammersmith Apollo, and perhaps no wonder when you consider what he’s put his body through over the years before he embraced his current sobriety.

The reunited metal legends will headline the metal festival's main stage - which has been named the Jim Marshall Stage in honour of the amp pioneer, who passed away earlier this year - on Sunday (June 10), after sets from the likes of Megadeth and Soundgarden.
